Discovered: My Boyfriend Is An Adventist!
Thank you so much for your availability to answer some questions I have. I’m a Christian woman who has loved Jesus Christ for the last 40 years. I’m sadly divorced and just started dating a man that I have known for 26 years. I always believed him to be a Christian, but now I realize he’s an Adventist. I’m running into some problems; however, I really love him. Do you have any advice?

Response: Unfortunately, my advice to you will be simple: you really cannot marry an Adventist if you are a Christian. You will fundamentally disagree with each other at the most basic levels. Your world views are different, and there is no resolving those problems you are encountering unless he submits to the word of God and allows the Lord to show him the truth, or unless you turn from Christianity and become Adventist±—a route I know you are not suggesting. To become Adventist would be to betray your trust in the Lord Jesus who has done everything needed for your salvation.
Here is an article that will help you understand the worldview differences you have: What Is Seventh-day Adventism?
Here are two articles that we wrote in response to other Christian women who became engaged to an Adventist: Help! My Fiance Is An Adventist! and How To Talk To An Adventist Boyfriend.
Meanwhile, although we are not currently publishing a printed version of Proclamation! magazine, all our back issues are online here: http://www.lifeassuranceministries.org.
We have also added your name to our weekly Proclamation! email updates. You may need to add the email address LifeAssuranceMinistries@gmail.com to your contacts in order for the email not to be directed toward your Spam folder. These emails will arrive every Friday. I strongly urge you to listen to these podcasts. They will help you understand the foundational differences between Adventism and Christianity from a personal perspective.
Are The Dead Watching Us?
According to you and your interpretation of the Bible, when we die our spirit goes to heaven to be with the Lord. Question for you. When people have died and are in the Lord’s presence, can they see what we are doing? This is either a yes or no answer!

Response: The Bible doesn’t tell us directly. However, there is nothing to suggest that they can interact with the living.
Sabbath was created?
You noted in a recent “We Got Mail” that the Sabbath was created. Created? I am wondering about that because it was the seventh day of the creation week when God rested (ceased creating) because the creation was finished???
Can you clarify what you mean?

Response: Thank you for catching that! I didn’t say all I was thinking. DAYS are created. They are not eternal, and the seventh day is a creation just like the sixth and the fifth and the fourth…that’s what I meant, and I realize I didn’t say all that, and the meaning was blurred.
Adventists often say that God created the Sabbath on the seventh day, and as we mentioned in this week’s Sabbath School commentary, the Garden of Grace at Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University has people entering the garden by descending the “seven stairs of creation”, each supposedly symbolizing one of the days of creation week.
You are so right; God didn’t create the Sabbath. He CEASED His work!
