He is Faithful

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him…If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. —2 Tim. 2:11-13

Nothing has been more profound to me than coming to believe in and know Christ as my personal Savior and understanding that my salvation is secure in Him. I cannot lose my position in Christ, no matter what I do. How can I be so confident in this assurance? Because the Spirit of the resurrected Christ lives in me!

Paul tells us that if we have become united with Christ in the likeness of His death, then certainly we will also be united in the likeness of His resurrection (Rom. 6:5).

Paul also reminds us if we have the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, indwelling us then we belong to Him (Rom. 8:9).

In John 3:5, Jesus tells Nicodemus (and us) that we must experience both a physical birth and also a spiritual birth before we can become Kingdom-of-God dwellers. It is His Spirit giving life to our spirit that gives us a new life in Christ (John 3:6-7).

The condition of spiritual death and disconnection from God, that we are all born into through Adam, is reversed or undone through belief in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our connection and relationship to God are restored. We are born-again to new life through the Spirit of God (Romans 5:12-21 and John 3).

In Ephesians 1:13-14 Paul seals the deal by describing how after we hear the message of truth, the gospel of salvation, and believe, we are sealed with the indwelling Holy Spirit who is given to us as a pledge of our eternal life with God.

All of these pictures of God in us (and there are more in the Bible) are extraordinarily significant and mean everything to our eternal salvation as well as our current condition. God in us means many things to us, but it is also our salvation assurance; and this assurance is guaranteed upon our moment of belief. Why? Because now He is in us and in the words of Paul to Timothy, “He [Christ] cannot disown Himself”. Christ’s Spirit is in us sealing us for eternity. We are literally new creatures; the old is gone the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17).

Our salvation is not dependent on the good or bad works that we do, but the righteousness of Christ in us that credits or counts us as righteous. Do you believe in Christ, the death He suffered, and the new life He brings? Are you convicted of your need for a Savior? Then you need only believe in the One sent (John 5:24)

He is faithful to not only save but to keep us saved.
