Sister Caught In Adventism

I have been listening to your podcast on Spotify for four months now, and I can’t thank you enough because God used you to encourage me to renew my commitment to the Lord and really appreciate His Word deeper.

I’m a Baptist Christian, and my sister converted to Adventism because she got married to one.

We both grew up in a church that preached the gospel, but it seemed like my sister didn’t really understand the gospel. She believes and defends the Adventist 28 fundamental beliefs.

I’ve been trying to understand Adventism, and it really baffled me how one can actually believe this cult.

I listened to your podcasts covering the Adventist 28 Fundamental Beliefs over and over again so I can have a better understanding, especially of their arguments supporting them

I’m going through the series again because I got my sister to agree that I can show her that these beliefs are not Biblical.

I need your prayers because I want the Lord to be glorified through this, and not because I want to prove to her that I’m right.

In addition, I would appreciate it if you can provide me the lists of the supporting verses for the human soul, because she strongly believes in the soul sleep doctrine as a typical Adventist member.

I really appreciate what your ministry is doing because it doesn’t only help former Adventists but also Christians like me who learned a lot about the Word of God.

May the Lord bless you!

Response: Thank you for writing! How wonderful that your sister will study the fundamental beliefs with you! I pray that the Lord will glorify Himself as you interact with her and that He will remove the scales of Adventism from her eyes to see Jesus.

Here are two articles that should help you with the question of the human spirit:

Can’t Trust People Who Don’t Know Truth

You said Christ was raised on Sunday. Wrong. I cannot trust people that do not know the truth.

Now we do not need the law. Oh my goodness; so the law is gone. How dangerous is that?

This why I cannot take you people seriously.

Response: I suggest that you read the book of Galatians, in context, one chapter at a time, every day for one month. Ask the Lord to teach you what He want you to know from that book!

I Need Help

I am a former Adventist married to an Adventist. I would like to have references showing where EGW contradicts the Bible, for example, sources in which page I can find information about not having the assurance of salvation, the investigative judgement, and so forth.

My husband is open to study this things with me, but he is very convinced of the Adventist message which, as you can imagine, makes things difficult at home. I would like information that shows EGW is a false prophet.

Please, I need help. I recently listen to the Cultish podcast on YouTube in which you were interviewed, but I need references to show my husband that the claims against EGW can be verified.  I appreciate your help.

Response: Thank you for writing. I will give you some links to start. This article will be a great place to begin; it is heavily cited: What Is Seventh-day Adventism?

  1. Just a note about something I kept thinking about this week. I am so mystified by the person who commented, “You said Christ was raised on Sunday. Wrong.” Keep wondering when they believe he was raised, or if they are someone who doesn’t believe in the resurrection.
