An article in the online Ugandan news outlet, New Vision, published on January 8, reported that the Adventist organization held an “annual corporate prayer meeting” at the Mandela National Stadium in the Wakiso district. The chief speaker was Pastor Samuel Kajoba, the “bishop of the Central Uganda Conference”. He urged those attending to “accept Jesus Christ as their savior to live better meaningful lives.” He said that this successful life was “about knowing your role as a Christian and following God’s commandments.”
Kajoba blamed corrupt government officials, immoral lives, violence, and pagan practices on the fact that the country’s leaders “have forgotten about God.” He punctuated his message with emphasis on Adventism as being the religion that only follows the Bible, and he urged keeping the seventh-day Sabbath as Jesus did when He rested in the tomb during His death. Kajoba further stressed that “God’s commandments”, referring to the Decalogue, “are very clear” and have never been “phased out like how other people allege.”
An American guest, Pastor Kalibbala Sepuya from the Chicago-based Seventh-day Adventist Ugandan Church in Chicago, emphasized Kajoba’s message and said, “We must follow what God commands us to do. That is how we are going to win true salvation.”
This public meeting ended with 800 people from different faiths being baptized into Adventism by the meeting’s organizers.
