750 Adventists Converge on Tucson, Arizona

The 2017 North American Division (NAD) Adventist Ministries Convention met January 8–11 in Tucson, Arizona. Besides attending the conference meetings, attendees participated in one of three NAD Compassion Ministries outreach opportunities. More than 150 conference participants helped pack meals for Stop Hunger Now. Others worked with Tucson Serve the City project, painting, cleaning, sweeping, and refurbishing two “under-resourced schools in the city.”

Following a familiar pattern being replicated throughout Adventism, these NAD members flooded a city and created an intense if brief impact, ingratiating themselves to the people of Tucson who do not realize that this community service is designed as a public relations tool for Adventism.

The Adventist Review quoted Bryant Taylor, a conference communications and IT director from Florida who coordinated one of the Tucson school projects. He stated that the principal appreciated that they “were willing to give of our time to come out on a Sunday morning to paint their school.” He added, “He was ecstatic that we were able to complete 1/3 of their total project in one day…We had prayer with him and prayed a blessing on the school.”

This Tucson conference is one more event fitting into the Total Member Involvement initiative of the Seventh-day Adventist organization as they intentionally multiply their proselytizing efforts around the world.
